An Equal Difference - First Edition

from £30.00

Why did Iceland call for the feminisation of its banking culture after the 2008 financial crisis, and prosecute those who put self-interest above social responsibility? Is it really the benevolent society the press makes it out to be? Inspired by Icelanders’ independence of mind and reported sense of social justice, the author spent three years photographing and speaking with people across Icelandic society, from musicians and scientists to educators and politicians. The result, 165 portraits and 20,000 words, reveals what is possible for all of us.

"An Equal Difference is no regular photography book. Neither is it a regular sociology book. It is both. And it is more. Philosophy. Sociology. Social activism. Art."
- Dr Inga Dóra Sigfúsdóttir, The Icelandic Centre for Social Research and Analysis

Researched, photographed and written in Iceland between July 2013 and June 2016, An Equal Difference brings together 165 portraits and landscapes alongside 20,000 words drawn from interviews with the people who appear in its pages. It was published in August 2016.

The book is a fine-art hardback: cloth-bound, silver-foiled, and printed on 155 gsm satin paper, with a champagne placeholder ribbon. The first edition is limited to 1,500 copies.
