Our Work
The Access Grant has supported artists across a genuinely wide range of disciplines and circumstances, managing mental health after loss, rebuilding a practice around caring responsibilities, returning to photography later in life, and working through the fear that keeps a practice from ever starting. In partnership with Invictus, the fund has also supported veterans attending street portraiture workshops, extending photography as a tool for connection and confidence to people who might not otherwise have found their way to it. Across post-workshop feedback, self-rated confidence consistently rises, often moving from a 3 out of 10 beforehand to an 8 or 9 afterwards, in the space of a single day.
Testimonials
"After a debilitating period of depression, I dug out my kit and slowly began to immerse myself in the process of making pictures... I realise now that this was mindful photography, and incredibly beneficial to my mental health."
"I find the exploration of people in a community, in relation to their surroundings and their personal stories, very interesting... those fleeting connections seem incredibly meaningful, especially against the loneliness so many of us experience day to day."
"It's definitely given me more confidence to approach people for portraits on the street. I don't lose anything and have more to gain by making the ask."
"The workshop has given me confidence in my ability and strength to try new things and be myself. Everyone should do it for self-discovery and self-confidence."
"It is only just becoming clear exactly what the day meant to me, in the weeks since. It has reawakened a real passion for connection and conversation, alongside photography. What a powerful healing mix."
