Copacabana Beach, Rio, Brasil

from 220.00

A jaunt to Rio in 2005 landed me in this scene walking along Copacabana beach one day. A boy was doing backflips off the sandbank. I shot this on a Leica. The reason I mention the brand is because of it's reputation for being one of the most expensive 35mm rangefinder systems on the market. I was constantly warned to keep it out of sight when I was not shooting. Shooting with it felt dangerous and the familiar anxiety one feels when photographing people on the street rose to new heights. The lovely and very tall man I shared a room with was mugged  not far from here at 10am in the morning. That is Brasil. Full of radiant beauty and darkness.
